2014 Recap – Round 9 German Grand Prix

The German Grand Prix took place on the same night as the World Cup final and the atmosphere around the Sachsenring was charged throughout the weekend and while Stefan Bradl switched to slicks on the grid to give him an early advantage his team was unable to change from a wet setup and the German fell back through the field. With the pitlane becoming the start line we saw a hugely dramatic race with Marc Marquez once again coming through the field to win.

Sachsenring review 2014 (4)Crutchlow continued to adapt to the Ducati and with the summer break starting after the German race the Englishman’s time was running out on the Ducati. His contract gave him the option to leave the Bologna manufacturer after the season but he had to confirm his decision during the summer

Sachsenring review 2014 (2)Bradley Smith had one of the worst weekend’s of his career with the Tech3 rider crashing five times as he battled for a contract for 2015. Speaking later in the year Smith summed up Sachsenring:
“Sachsenring is still very difficult for me to explain. A lot came down to my attitude and I had decided after watching a lot of videos of other riders in the championship that I wasn’t taking enough risks. It didn’t look like I was riding hard enough. When I watched me riding I looked safe and I decided that my inner voice or my feedback was being too conservative.”

Sachsenring review 2014 (3)Broc Parkes was the star of Assen but a huge crash on Saturday morning left the Australian in pain and forced to battle through the rest of the weekend without his preferred chassis

The Englishman admitted that until recently he had been trying to set his bike up similarly to how he used a Moto3 bike in 2012 but with the class having evolved so heavily since then he has had to adapt for 2014
