Lorenzo: The bike is nervous

jorge lorenzo assen friday 2014 (2)Jorge Lorenzo was fourth fastest at the end of the opening day’s running at the Dutch TT with the Spaniard complaining of a handling inbalance from his Yamaha. The double MotoGP world champion said that the bike was handling nervously for him and that graining of the front tyre added to his problems.

Speaking to the media after the afternoon session Lorenzo summed up his difficulties:

“To be honest I expected to have these problems, especially this afternoon,” admitted Lorenzo. “The bike is handling a little bit more nervously than the solution that we found in Aragon and Barcelona but it’s still better than before. We also found some problems with the front tyre which is graining especially on the right side. It’s probably because our settings have too much weight on the rear so we will test a different setting. These are the two big problems for us especially the front and the bike is nervous but it’s a little better than normal. It’s a little bit difficult to keep a constant pace but it’s better than before. In acceleration we are a little bit aggressive but little by little we are coming.”

jorge lorenzo mugello saturday 2014 (2)When asked about the tyres and whether he was able to run the softer rear tyre Lorenzo said, “The soft tyre is too soft so I didn’t try it. The front tyre is the one that we’ll use in the race. The rear tyre is the same as last year but has the new construction.”

Lorenzo has struggled throughout the session to deal with the new construction tyres which use a heat resistant layer to try and limit the possibility of blistering which affected Bridgestone at some races last year.

Lorenzo also used a new exhaust today, the same that was first tested in Barcelona, and when asked for his thoughts on the new exhaust and whether he will race it the Spaniard said:

“It has some positive things and some negatives. At the moment it seems better in general and that’s why we are using it but we’d like to try it at another track. We’ll probably race it.”
