Jorge Lorenzo continues to look at the positives from his difficult title defence after finishing sixth at Laguna Seca.
The Spaniard continues to race with his fractured collarbone but during the 32 lap race he admitted to suffering from dizzyness and being light headed. As a result he was understandably pleased to have finished the race and claimed important points towards the championship:
“We are still in the fight for the championship so I am very proud,” said Lorenzo. “It was a difficult race because we were slower than the Honda and I wasn’t in a very good physical condition. I needed more air during the race and I felt ligh headed and dizzy during it. Two operations in one month and no training means that at this level what I did today was unbelievable.”
Lorenzo has now fallen 26 points adrift in the championship but with nine races remaining he is still confident that he will be in position to claim a third premier class championship:
“If at Indianapolis I am in perfect conditions and can fight again for the victory. When you compare the situation with what could have been without crashing at Assen or Sachsenring…In the races that I should have been at home but I came and got 21 points so I am proud and happy with my results.
“I will work from now on to be in a position to win races and recover these points. I wont be 100% at Indy because the bone needs two months to recover but I will be much better than here and I am also waiting for some improvements from the Yamaha so I am confident I can recover those points.”
