Crutchlow living in the present rather than thinking about the future

Cal-Crutchlow-2-Barcelona-MotoGP-FP2-2013Cal Crutchlow moved to dismiss speculation about his future at Montmelo this afternoon with the Englishman instead deciding to focus on the upcoming races. When asked if he had begun discussions with Suzuki about a move to the Japanese manufacturer next season Crutchlow said:

“I won’t be speaking with anybody because that’s not my job anymore,” commented the Englishman. “My job is to ride the bike. Last year and January of this year we spoke to them [Suzuki] to see if they will be coming back but no more. When the time is right and they decide to be completely coming back then we might talk some more but until then there is no need to speak to anyone.”

Cal-Cruthclow-Assen-MotoGP-2012Having started the season with two podium finishes and top five finishes at each race the former World Supersport champion will be one of the hottest properties on the market but it is Crutchlow was keen to stress that he is concentrating on racing and that he is looking to avoid a repeat of what happened last year, when he finished the season with some rostrum finishes but also some costly retirements.

After the Italian Grand Prix Crutchlow held a meeting with Yamaha officials and both sides had the time to discuss their intentions for next season.

“We needed to speak with Yamaha,” said Crutchlow. “There were some things that I wanted to say to them and vice versa I think. Otherwise we are continuing the way we are and I have to think about my results on track and not think about next year. We know what happened last year and I don’t want it to happen again so I think that if I have a comment about next year it’s that we’re speaking to Yamaha but we’re speaking to everybody. There’s nothing set in stone [in MotoGP] next year and we don’t know what seats are free.”
