Iwema leaves FGR in Moto3

Jasper Iwema today confirmed that he will not race again in the 2012 season.

The Dutchman has endured a miserable campaign with numerous crashes and disappointing showings. Finishing seventh in the French Grand Prix, run in atrocious conditions, was the only bright spot in a bleak season that culminated with another crash in the Aragon Grand Prix.

After his latest crash Iwema took stock of his season to date and has clearly decided that the best course of action for him is to take a step back from the sport and end his season early.

The Moto FGR rider announced his decision through his twitter account and commented that he had made his decision because he had “tried it in many ways but finally it didn’t work out. I’m not riding in GP just to be there. I want to race to get the best out of me and make results.”

His decision leaves an opening at FGR and the team has not announced who will replace Iwema. The next Grand Prix is the Japanese Grand Prix on October 14.
