Audi 1-2-3 after five hours at Sebring

Tom Krisenson and the crew of the number three Audi have opened a slender lead after five hours of the Sebring 12 Hours before the Dane handed over driving duties to Dindo Capello during a pitstop.

Kristenson was thwarted by numerous caution periods during his stint behind the wheel but when the track has been clear he has consistently been able to pull away from his teammate, Loic Duval, in the number two Audi.

As expected the German marquee has dominated proceedings by holding all three podium spots in the early running.

As was the case during practice ahead of today’s race the “Muscle Milk” sponsored HDP squad has been the closest challenger to the Audi squad but the number six crew are already two laps adrift of the leader and are consistently two seconds a lap slower.

Nick Heidfeld has had a competitive return to sportscar racing with the ex-Formula 1 racer holding a steady fifth position as the race nears the half way mark. The Rebellion driver has looked composed throughout his stint and is just seven seconds behind Simon Pagenaud in the HPD car.

In the LMP2 class Frenchman Stephane Sarrizin is being pushed hard by Christope Bouchet. The former factory Peugeot driver holds a lead of under one second and with traffic playing a major part in their battle it is clear that the class lead will be hotly contested in the coming hours.

In the LMPC class EJ Viso leads for Oreca with Jan Magnusson holding the GT class leadership for Corvette.
