Damp conditions greet morning warmup

Sunday dawned with rain on the horizon at Silverstone and it arrived before warm up began. The Moto2 class were first on track with Xavier Simeon topping the times by just 0.008s from Italian Andrea Iannone with Bradley Smith third.

The wet conditions challenged everybody but none more so than Marc Marquez who lost control exiting the final corner and fell off before his bike slammed into the pit wall. The pole sitter will face a race against time before the opening race of the day.

Kenan Sofuoglu was fourth with Yonny Hernandez and Yuki Takahashi looking competitive in the wet. Scott Redding has been one of the pacesetters all weekend and will start second but the Englishman could do no better than ninth in the wet conditions.

In the premier class Casey Stoner continued to set the pace with the Australian easily ahead of Jorge Lorenzo with Marco Simoncelli third fastest, but over 1.5s off the pace.

Ben Spies was fourth ahead Andrea Dovizioso with Alvaro Bautista capping an impressive session with the sixth fastest time.

Valentino Rossi, who has struggled with setup woes throughout the weekend, was eighth fasetst.

In the 125cc class it came as little surprise that Jonas Folger ended the 20 minute session fastest. The German always excels in the wet and this morning proved no exception with the Ajo Aprilia rider over one second faster than Nico Terol. It was a positive morning for the Germans with Marcel Schrotter third fastest aboard the Mahindra and comfortably ahead of Johann Zarco.

Pole sitter Maverick Vinales was fifth but the rookie was over four seconds off the pace to end the session just ahead of Adrian Martin and Danny Kent.
