Scott Redding dominated the opening Moto2 session of the weekend topping the times by almost 0.6s from championship leader Stefan Bradl. Redding, the winner of the 2008 British 125cc GP, was just 0.2s off the lap record.
Yonny Hernandez was third fastest ahead of Simone Corsi and a trio of rookie, Randy Krummenacher, Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith. Krummenacher looked particularly impressive and set a series of fast times during the session as he continues to acclimatise to the intermediate class.
The session featured quite a lot of incidents with the biggest coming towards the end when Aleix Espargaro and Michelle Pirro clashed in the opening sector of the lap. Espargaro came away unscathed and returned to the pits but Pirro was not so lucky. The Italian was on the outside of turn four when Espargaro ran wide and into his side leaving Pirro with nowhere to go and a crash inevitable.
He wasn’t the only faller in the session with Mattia Passini crashing in the final moments and other incidents throughout the session.
