Championship leader Nico Terol continued his superb start to the season by dominating the opening practice at Estoril in the 125cc class. The Aspar Aprilia rider was over one second faster than the rest of the field after topping the timing screens throughout the session.
Frenchman Johann Zarco was second faster with the Ajo Derbi rider clearly confident of another strong result this weekend following his first career podium last time out in Jerez. Hector Faubel, teammate of Terol, was third fastest with the former Estoril winner setting his fastest time of the day on his final lap.
Conditions were damp and cold and as a result the times from this morning’s session were considerably off the ultimate pace expected this weekend. Even so it is ominous that Terol was so much more confident in this session than his rivals.
Sandro Cortese, pole sitter at Jerez, was fourth fastest ahead of Derbi’s Efren Vazquez and the impressive Jonas Folger.
The home crowd cheered Miguel Oliveira to the eighth fastest time with the rookie once more showing his speed throughout the session.
