Rosberg tops the times on final day of testing

Winter testing ended with a whimper today when rain made the final day at Barcelona irrelevant for Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and Williams.

The conditions made any running all but impossible for most of the day. The rain was such that Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher only completed five installation laps each in the morning before Schumacher handed driving duties to Rosberg and Ferrari started to pack up their equipment.

The other trio of drivers, Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and Pastor Maldonado, completed more extensive running in the afternoon but the information they gleaned from the day will offer little benefit going forward.

It was only in the final moments that conditions improved enough for the drivers to even contemplate setting fast times and it was Rosberg that ended the day fastest, over 20s adrift of the dry weather pace.

The teams will now pack up their cars and get ready to freight them to Australia for opening race of the season in just two weeks time.
